Seeing mountain goats in the wild had been a dream of mine for a long time, so encountering them in Glacier National Park was a moment I won't forget. There's something special about seeing an animal so perfectly at home in a rugged mountain environment, moving through the landscape as if it belongs to another world.
Of all the goats we encountered that day, this one left the biggest impression on me. As we made our way back down the trail, it followed along, staying with us as we continued toward the end of our visit. It felt like an unexpected send-off from one of the park's wild residents, a final moment with an animal I'd hoped to see for years.
I took this photograph to remember that encounter. The goat's direct gaze, its thick coat, and the wildflowers scattered across the foreground capture a quiet moment of curiosity between us. For me, this image represents more than checking something off a list. It's a reminder of the unexpected connections we can experience in nature, and how a brief encounter can become one of the most memorable parts of a journey.
